Message from the Director of Teaching and Learning

Louise Roe - Director of Teaching and LearningNovember 4, 2021

Kia ora – ngā mihi nui ki a kotou katoa

My respect and appreciation, to all our learners for their effort and successes in 2021. My gratitude and pride, to all our staff for their effort and successes in 2021.

Because together Ko Taku Reo students and Ko Taku Reo staff have formed wonderful learning-focused relationships.

And these relationships are the foundation for all progress and success in education.

Learning focussed relationships are based on mutual respect.
They are transparent, they share understandings and language, they negotiate challenges and they are future focused.
Learning focused relationships trust, they make the most of opportunities and they allow us to take risks and be brave in our learning.

At Ko Taku Reo we know that when the relationships are right the student flourishes.
It is a privilege for us to enter into learning focused relationships with a wide variety of other people with whom we share the eductaion of our rangitahi.
Whanau, other educators, and specialist support staff all work with us to surround our learners with a community of learning.

“Learning focused relationships are about using the considerable potential in the relationship between teachers and student to maximise the students engagement with learning: about enabling the student to play a meaningful role in deciding what to learn and how to learn it; and about enabling the student to become a confident, resilient, active, self regulating learner” – Michael Absolum

Many learning focused relationships have been forged or continued, this year.
I know that our students and our teachers enjoy and appreciate these because they tell me this.
It is these relationships that give meaning to the commitment and achievement our students and our teachers experience every day.
See you in 2022 to see this potential maximised further!
