Celebrating our two students' forklift license achievement!
On May 3 & 4, the Massey High School Building Academy went to forklift training to gain their licence. We were lucky that Brooklyn from Tū Kōkiri could also attend along with Markus, organised by Kerry and me through a forklift training provider. We had two exceptional NZSL interpreters, Megan and Taria.
We visually explored the training site and learnt the names of the parts on the forklift. The day was long and interesting. The guys enjoyed pizza for lunch on both days. YUM YUM.
We learnt how to put on a harness, lift people in a cage, walk safely behind forklifts, counterbalance and what this means for a forklift and pallet trucks. We had a lot of theory and practical tests on three different forklifts.
The young men had to stack, unstack, and operate the forklift without practical supervision. The trainers were there watching, but the students had to remember the steps themselves after being taught.
Both Brooklyn and Markus got 14 credits for theory and practical. Also, they passed their forklift driving test, so now they have their licence for operating forklifts. Yay!!!
Congratulations to both.
