Ormiston Senior Students Excel in Every Aspect of School Life

Elena Turner - Provision Lead TeacherJune 20, 2024

We have hit the ground running at Ormiston Senior College this term!

Students have been working extremely hard on their assessments to achieve valuable credits. In physical education, we have seen much growth as students learn a lot of new and interesting terminology; they learn about biomechanics, biophysical principles, and anatomy related to sports. Students have been learning about budgeting, insurance and how to buy a house in financial literacy! In NZSL class, we've discussed climate change; and in hospitality, the students have been preparing to cook under the assessment of fully qualified chefs at M.I.T. In construction, our boys have been building cape cod chairs, and for NZSL week, our student leader created some learning resources for mainstream staff/students to use.

This term, we have seen one of our students grow in the social aspects of school life as he attended his first interschool badminton season. He has made many new friends by joining other schools for social games when the official games are finished. This term, the badminton season ends, but the students are keen to see what they can join next term.

It has been great to see how well our students are growing in their language, confidence, identity, and social and academic abilities through such varied aspects of school life this term.
