Kia ora koutou e te Whānau

Konini School Board —

Don't forget that school is closed tomorrow as we are holding our first of two Teacher Only Days (ToDs), focusing on unpacking the revised Mathematics Curriculum.

Why We Have Teacher-Only Days

You may have noticed that our Teacher Only Days (TODs) this year have been scheduled to link with long weekends wherever possible. We’ve done this deliberately to help minimise disruption for whānau, knowing that juggling work and childcare on these days can be tricky. We really appreciate your support and understanding.

TODs give our staff something we rarely have during the term — uninterrupted time to work together as a whole school. These days are essential for curriculum development, allowing us to meet in teaching teams and as a full staff to unpack each part of the refreshed curriculum. This helps us understand how the learning phases progress and connect across year levels. It’s important that all staff, regardless of year level, have a shared understanding of the learning journey, as we have students working at a range of levels in every classroom.

The work we begin on TODs continues through after-school team and staff meetings, where we refine our planning and assessment approaches. By the time we come together again for our next Teacher Only Day on Thursday 24 October, we aim to have a clear and shared plan for how we will implement the new curriculum and begin developing updated assessment and reporting procedures ready for 2026.

Thank you again for supporting this important work.
