Konini Planting Bee

Mandy Vanderwee —

What a magnificent turn out of whanau to our planting bee. Over 500 new shrubs and trees are now nestled into their new home down the far end of the field.

On Sunday 28 July many families gathered at school to help develop a new garden of bushes and trees on a new embankment made with soil and fill from our renovated playground area.  We received guidance from Sarah James our Forest Kaitiaki teacher, on how to plant new shrubs. Following our lesson we then all took our spades and shovels and set to planting.  Later we were rewarded with a drink and a sausage sizzle for all our hard work.  Have a look at all the photos.

Thank you to Sarah James and Gill Aldworth for organising the day.  A big thank you to all the families and children who helped. Thank you to Eco Matters for a financial grant to assist the buying of plants.
