The Runaway

Rukiya Halligan —

Sitting down with an annoying crow on the back of my chair, just dreaming about something for my 10th birthday, nothing but a better life and a better home.

In my dream I am in a wonderful palace where I don’t have to work at all because I have a butler and a maid. I thought to myself, why not try and make this day-dream, a reality? I packed my bag and ran outside as fast as I could. My mother( as I am an orphan) always told me that I could do anything that I wanted as long as I believed, and I did, in myself.

I ran out of town and screamed as loud as I could, (but not too loud because my boss, well my old boss recognizes my voice) FREEDOM!!!!!!!! I ran all the way up the hill and down, I actually managed to trip over and graze my knee without crying. ( you might not know I seem to cry a lot.)

It was past midnight and I still hadn’t found a place to stay the night! Just saying I hadn’t found my castle yet and you won’t believe it but I forgot my map and my compass. I found a tree and I grabbed my rag that I packed to use as a blanket if I didn’t find any shelter. YAWN! I finally woke up and woah, that was the worst sleep I have ever had in my life! The bark on the tree kept scratching me. But that is beside the point.

I looked at the tree I slept against and I can’t believe I didn’t notice, but behind the tree was a huge mansion!!! I ran up to the door and knocked as loud as I could and tried to make myself look more presentable because I am a mess! Soon after 5 minutes I heard something, footsteps and I also heard a cat “meow meow.” I was sweating so much, I was so nervous and soon I saw a man in a suit asking me something and he said “Would you like something to eat or drink?” I was stunned and that is how my life became a living dream. I am just saying I had the best 11th birthday. ( I’ve been living in the mansion for a year now and the owner adopted me.)
