Start of year reminders

Stationery

We supply all stationery items, rather than send home a stationery list for whānau to go out a buy. This means that every child starts the year with everything they need for their learning on day one. We do ask for a $10 contribution from whānau to go towards the start of year stationery costs.

Start of day

School starts at 8.50 am. We encourage children to arrive at school at 8.30 am so they have time to say hello to their teacher, hang up their bag and have a bit of time to play with their friends.

If children arrive before 8.30 am we ask them to wait on the seating in the sheltered walkway. Staff are often busy up until the 8.30 am bell and are not always in their class, which is why we ask early arrivers to wait patiently until 8.30 am before heading to class.

If you arrive after the 8.50 am bell, please pop into the office to collect a late pass. This process is important as class teachers complete class attendance straight after the 8.50 am bell. Attendance for children who arrive late is marked off by the office.

Food and drink breaks

We encourage all children to bring their own drink bottles. Our fountains have bottle filling fittings and many of our senior classes have access to chilled filtered water.

All classes have a brain fuel break around 10.00 am. Please pack something small that can be eaten easily during the 5 minute break.

Morning tea is at 11.00 am. All children sit down with their teacher for 10 minutes to eat. Fruit, sandwiches, carrots etc, are all perfect examples of food you can pack for the morning tea break.

Lunch break starts at 1.00 pm but we don't eat until 1.40 pm. Again, children sit down with their teacher and eat lunch for 10 minutes. If children take a bit longer to eat, they can finish eating lunch in class. Check your child's lunch box each day to gauge if they need an extra sandwich or not. You will be surprised how much they eat when they have to sit down with their classmates.

Waste free lunch boxes

As a proud Green Gold Enviro School we strongly encourage children to bring waste free lunch boxes to school. We encourage you all to look at how you can avoid using plastic wrap and other single use packaging. We can compost most food scraps and discourage children from adding food packaging waste to the school landfill bin.

Hats

All children are required to wear wide brimmed hats whenever they go out for sport and play during term 1 and 4. We have a very limited stock of hats in the office.
