Letters to Dr Bloomfield and Prime Minister Ardern ...

Room 23 —

Dear Ms Ardern,

Thank you so much for putting us in lockdown when you did, otherwise we could have had a lot more deaths and cases of Covid-19.  I think all the New Zealanders are grateful that you did what you did and when you did!

Hi, my name is Luke and I am 10 years old from Konini School.  I have the best teachers ever Mrs Ingoe and Anna.  They are both super nice to everyone.

During lockdown I loved going on walks.  All the birds were so tame and they flew right next to us because they weren't so scared.  There wasn't much noise or pollution and that's why they weren't so scared.

I made two cheese cakes and a banana cake while I was in lockdown.  They were scrumptious.  Sometimes Rainbow Parrots or Tuis sat on my tree for a long time.  Once there were four Tuis on my tree when I came back from a walk.

My class all made time capsules with pictures, a book of things we did in lockdown and more.  We are going to open them at 7pm, March 25th 2040.

In lockdown I felt a lot of emotions anxious, happy and very lonely.  Every Wednesday and Friday we had Zoom meetings like you did with Lee Hart.  We had themes and we did scavenger hunts and quizzes.  We all decorated our letter boxes on Anzac Day.  I got up at 6am and listened to the bagpipes at my letter box.

Once again, thank you for putting us in lockdown at the right time.  I hope you write back to us.  If you do I am looking forward to it.

Yours sincerely, Luke.

Dear Dr Ashley

We all appreciate your very hard work to keep New Zealand safe under the Covid-19 pandemic rules.  We have loved having you as our Director General of Health,  without you New Zealand would be in a complete different situation right now.  We are all so lucky to have you guiding us to victory against this wicked virus with our beloved Prime Minister.

Hi Dr Ashley my name is Sam and I'm 10 years of age.  I go to Konini School.  It's been a bit different going back to school after lockdown, sanitising and washing our hands lots especially that I don't get to hug all my friends.  My favourite part of lockdown was watching movies with my family and going to Zoom meetings with what ever theme we had to do to see my friends and my wonderful teacher Mrs Ingoe.

Lockdown wasn't great but it was also fun and exciting.  You see every time you see someone when you try and walk past them we have to move over so we're two metres apart but I know thats a rule.  I also loved lockdown because I got to go on bike rides with my dad and brother and got to watch movies.  Even though we couldn't go to the cinemas it was still as great.

It was strange with no noise and no cars because usually I wake up to nothing but noise after noise after noise but now there's nothing and then when I go to the park I can ride where ever I want in the car park because there's NO CARS!

Once again I would like to say thank you for all that you have done for us and the country to keep us safe from this virus.  Keep doing what you're doing to keep us safe.  Just to add a little something we did scavenger hunts, Scatagories and themes for our Zoom meetings.

Yours sincerely

Sam Knauf, Rm 23
