How are we going to maintain good hygiene routines at school?

Andrew Ducat —

First and foremost - it is safe for all schools to open.

We will be operating under the following principles:

  1. We will not have strict physical distancing measures enforced as this is impractical in a school setting.

  2. A strong emphasis will be placed on good hygiene practices based on the Government's consistent message, which is; wash your hands regularly, sneeze and cough into your elbow, avoid touching your face and stay home if you are unwell.

What will physical distancing look like in classrooms?

We have been busy setting up classrooms and tidying up the school grounds.  Seating configurations have been modified in all classrooms to make sure there is sensible spacing between pupils.

All pupils have been assigned a workspace at a table. This is where they will carry out most learning-related tasks that involve using pen and paper or devices.

Pupils will eat their brain food, morning tea and lunch at their table.

Mat areas have been marked with seating guides so pupils know where they can sit without encroaching into another class member's physical space.

Time will be spent practising moving in and out of classrooms, accessing equipment, walking around the school, using bathrooms, etc to help pupils understand what is expected of them.

What will physical distancing look like in the playground?

During break times we will have additional members of staff on duty to monitor how pupils will be observing physical distancing and play.

The playground and sandpit will be open and will be supervised by staff.

Sports equipment will be made available and will be cleaned at the end of morning tea and lunchtime.

Can children bring in toys, such as Beyblades and Yugioh cards?

The short answer to this is no. Pupils will be reminded to keep toys, sports equipment, cards and Beyblades at home. We will have equipment for them to use at school and will regularly clean shared lunchtime sports gear.

The most important thing pupils can do is to regularly wash their hands.
