Welcome to Konini School

Andrew Ducat —

A special welcome to Maura O'Shea who has recently joined the Senior Leadership Team. Maura is our new Learning Support Co-ordinator.

Maura is based in the office next to Room 8 and has been spending time in classrooms this week getting to know all the members of staff and the children she will be working with.

The Learning Support Co-ordinator (LSC) role is a newly created role which is fully funded by the Government. You may have read about the creation of 500 new LSCs positions last year.  Our involvement with our local Kahui Ako (Community of Learning) has meant that we are in the fortunate position to be one of the first schools in the country to be allocated a full-time LSC.

As this is a newly created position, Maura's responsibilities are still emerging. In saying that Maura will be heavily involved in working with staff, whanau and students across the school to support our learners who may require support and or extension. Maura's role is very similar to the role of a SENCO (Special Education Needs Co-ordinator). The main difference is, traditionally SENCOs also had a variety of other roles to play in a school on top of the busy SENCO portfolio. Luckily for Konini, we now have a full time dedicated member of staff whose responsibility is solely on Learning Support.

If you get the chance, say hello to Maura when you see her on duty, in the playground or walking around our great school.
