Homework Poem by Simone Liew, Rm 15

Simone Liew —

My Homework Poem

I sat down at my desk,

With a pen and sheet of paper,

When a camel in a tailcoat, came in and offered me a caper.

I said no of course,

I’d never accept from a stranger,

But when he continued to insist,

I became aware of danger.

I dodged past him through the doorway,

And fled straight down the stairs,

But at the bottom awaited me,

a hungry flock of hares.

They chased me down the hallway,

I could see their evil beady eyes,

they assured me from behind,

that they would bake me into pies.

We emerged out to the street,

The chase was in plain sight.

The neighbours watching from their windows,

Would have fallen back in fright.

My shoelace came undone,

And I fell down in the gutter.

The rabbits took advantage,

and they smothered me in butter.

They prepared to eat me,

One pulled out a knife and fork.

But then out-rushed the camel,

Who threw a piece of cork.

It hit the leader in the head,

He fell to the ground in pain.

The camel pulled something out of his coat,

I ran before I was slain.

So you see why I didn’t do my homework,

It was impossible to do so yesterday.

But I promise I’ll try, yes I will try,

I will try to do it today.
