On Friday 24 March, Wairakei Primary School in Taupo was lucky enough to have a visit from the National Language Adviser for Japanese, Dr Kyoko Mikami. Dr Mikami works for ILEP (International Languages and Pathways) and came to see how VLN Primary is promoting Japanese to young people throughout New Zealand.
Dr Mikami participated in the online lesson, which has five students from around New Zealand, most far afield such as Tahakopa School in the Catlins of the South Island. Dr Mikami provided resources and support that will be invaluable.
Also visiting with Dr Mikami was the Japanese teacher from Taupo-Nui-A-Tia College in Taupo, Raewyn Ireland (see picture below). It was a good opportunity for connections to be made around the promotion of Japanese.
