The Grass Roots Ideas Initiative

Rachel Whalley —

We would LOVE our participating VLN Primary Schools to apply for this initiative recently announced by the MoE.

The Grass Roots Ideas Initiative aims to help schools around New Zealand better understand how digital technologies can enhance teaching and learning. It gathers real-world information from teachers who are innovating with technology in the classroom.

This is a great opportunity for you to have the supported time to explore how your involvement in the VLN Primary online programmes makes a difference for teaching and learning and how it can have a positive impact on student engagement and achievement.

Many of our schools have unique  ways of participating and engaging with the VLN Primary. Learning outcomes for our students are also diverse according to their reasons for participation.

Whether you want to look at this from the perspective of:

  • being an eteacher,
  • developing students key competencies,
  • how it integrates well into ILE being developed in your schools,
  • developing digital fluency for students and teachers,
  • how it enables collaboration and reduces isolation for students and teachers.

There are may ways of looking at how the VLN Primary is a part of the way you learn at your school.

The VLN Primary itself is the epitome of a Grass Roots initiative - driving change in the way we teach and learn across schools.  We encourage you to find out more and get involved with this initiative.
