Hazel Owen - VLN Primary Champion

Rachel Whalley —

It is with great sadness that we mark the passing of our amazing Hazel Owen who has been a champion of online learning and the VLN Primary for many years.

Hazel Owen passed away peacefully on Sunday 9th of June after a 2 year battle with cancer.   Hazel will be remembered as someone who was a powerhouse of positivity, enthusiastic, super smart, witty, gracious, caring, thought provoking, energetic and passionate about all she was involved in.  Hazel truly was a shining light in all the lives she touched.

Hazel has been an important part of our Governance team since our charitable trust was first established in 2014, later joined on the board by husband John. She also developed and lead the VPLD (Virtual Professional Development) for many years which many of our teachers have been involved in. She touched many lives in her work in education as a teacher, researcher, leader, coach and mentor and she will be sorely missed by her many friends. Our condolences and aroha to John.

Wahine toa, wahine ataahua. A lovely lady now at peace, moe mai ra Hazel.
