E-teacher Profile: Morgan Scott

Amanda King —

Introducing Morgan Scott, e-teacher from Campion College

"My name is Morgan Scott. I hail from Gisborne, on the East Coast of the Island. I have spent a bunch of time away from here though, living in most major cities in NZ. I have spent a long time living and training in South Korea too.  I am an enthusiastic geographer, and I am excited by all things geo.

I have been teaching since 2000, where I started teaching in Seoul, and continuing upon my return to New Zealand in 2005. I have been a part of the online teaching and learning community since 2017. I started as an e-teacher with FarNet, from up in the Far North. Now, I continue this with Kotui Ako VLN at my current school, Campion College. I love getting into the outdoors.  I am also interested in martial arts, movies and hanging with my family."

A geographer in his natural environment!

CurrentIy, I teach the Level 1 Geography course for Kotui Ako VLN.

It is a very flexible way of teaching. It comes with its own set of challenges, but is very rewarding. I also enjoy working with a range of cool teachers from around the place.

In my teaching practice, I am always trying new things and ways to implement them. There are many new tools available for online teaching and learning. Usually, It is about the student being the driver of the mahi. Over the last couple of years, I have been using websites and a range of evolving digital tools to engage the students.

Online learning allows students restricted by timetable, or staffing constraints to study subjects they might otherwise miss out on.

If I was to give advice to other other potential online teachers it would be to just have a go! It is a good way of meeting different students from all around the country.
