Netsafe LIVE - Postponed new dates TBA
Providing a safe online learning environment and the skills and dispositions needed to connect and navigate safely online is critical for our rangatahi's wellbeing. Netsafe is partnering with the VLN Primary to bring this free event to schools and parents in August. Tailored specifically for VLN schools, teachers and community, all are welcome to participate in these workshops.
Join Netsafe’s Education Advisor Pauline Spence as she unpacks the risks, challenges and opportunities of digital tech and online spaces, and ways we can help young people to be safe online. There are sessions for school leaders and educators, parents and whānau.
Sessions for school leaders and educators
Learning and Leading in a Changing Landscape – approaches to developing online safety, digital citizenship and wellbeing across the school.
Session 1: Thursday, 6 August 2020 | 3.30pm – 4.30pm
Postponed till next week - date to be advised!
This session will explore ways leaders can engage all areas of the school in online safety initiatives and approaches. There will be the opportunity to unpack and use the Netsafe Schools Review Tool and look at how this can be used to support schools to develop shared understandings around online safety, digital citizenship and wellbeing. We will start to prioritise what’s on top, and to identify and plan for next steps.
Session 2: Thursday 20 August 2020 | 3.30pm – 4.30pm
This session will look at Netsafe’s most recent online safety research into how young people are interacting and using online spaces and also provide opportunities to discuss what schools are currently seeing. We will explore a school’s duty of care when online harm occurs, how schools can support and what schools need to have in place to help manage incidents when they arise.
Session 3: Thursday 3 September 2020 | 3.30 – 4.30pm
This session will look at online challenges and opportunities students face, and ways to develop ‘digital’ capabilities across the curriculum. We will discuss the attitudes, values, skills and knowledge young people need as they navigate online spaces and identify familiar frameworks to inform classroom approaches.
Session for parents and whānau
Powerful Partnerships – working together to support young people as they navigate the online world.
Thursday 10 September | 7.00 - 8.00pm
This session is for parents and whānau who are caring for young people of all ages – from preschool to teenagers – and will look at they can support and enable children and young people to navigate online opportunities, challenges and complexities.
