Immerse Yourself in a Cultural Experience

Helen Goldsworthy —

Host a Chinese teacher with AFS, and provide a valuable cultural experience for the whole school.

AFS are excited to confirm that groups from China will be arriving in July this year. They are keen to hear from New Zealand Schools and Kiwi Families interested in hosting.

Educational Advantage:

23rd July: China arrival for 4 week programme (20 pax TBC)

Join the AFS Educational Advantage Facebook page to keep in the loop.

Our VLN Primary schools have hosted Chinese teachers with AFS and find it a valuable cultural experience for the whole school. You can read more about the VLN Primary experience with AFS and hosting a Chinese teacher here. Teachers can be hosted also by a cluster of schools. Contact Prue for queries prue.elwood@afs.org

AFS offers an experience in the language & culture of NZ , the perfect chance to observe in a New Zealand school and teach in a new culture, while sharing your own personal culture, language and teaching experiences. "What better way to bring the world to your corner of NZ and develop our children's understanding of cultural diversity, customs and Languages."

This is a great opportunity for both schools and families to experience a different culture first hand and gain some valuable benefits.

Kath from Halfmoon Bay School has been a host and wrote 'It was so interesting to live and work with someone from a completely different culture for a week'.

The teachers will be visiting in July and will be tutoring their native language across schools in New Zealand. VLN Primary School is excited to get behind the exchange through the Asian Language project (ALLiS).

International Languages Week falls in the 3rd week of the programme dates, Visiting teachers can organise and run many different activities for the week, make resources, and run classes.

Foreign teachers arrive with new ideas and fresh perspectives that add value to schools. The exchange of culture and language experiences can increase student motivation and encourage children to continue their learning. It is rewarding as students are able to see their learning put into context.
