Anna Fourie - Afrikaans Teacher by Rachel Whalley

Afrikaanse Kiwi-kinders kan Afrikaans aanlyn leer by VLN

Brokkies-NZ profiles the VLN Primary School and online Afrikaans classes. Please share with your Afrikaans heritage whānau.

The VLN Primary offers opportunities for children to not only learn a new language but also to maintain and strengthen their own heritage language. It is great to make connections with different communities to see how we can provide language learning opportunities for their children. Thanks to Philip from Brokkies-NZ who profiled the VLN Primary to the NZ Afrikaans community.

If you have families with Afrikaans heritage at your school, please share the attached flyer about our Afrikaans programme. We would love to have their children participate.

Afrikaans Online is being provided by Annatjie Fourie, Principal of Ohura Valley Primary School in Waikato (near Taumaranui), as her contribution to the VLN Primary School. Not only does this provide students with new learning opportunities, but it enables Annatjie to teach in an area she is passionate about.

Classes are aimed at the beginner language learner, but they’ve also been expanded to extension classes with some language and comprehension work. All classes can then be tailored to suit the varying needs of the children. This class is suitable for NZ students with an interest in Afrikaans, and who want to be able to speak with their friends and neighbours.

They also provide language learning support for South African children in New Zealand.
