Students helping students to learn - Filipino by Asia New Zealand Foundation

Talking Tagalog and Tuakana Teina

Rosmini College Student John Yap talks about his Filipino language experience with VLN Primary School. John has been teaching other students the Filipino language, Tagalog, online with the VLN Primary School for 2 years.

John assists in teaching Tagalog through weekly classes to primary aged children around New Zealand. There is no better way to learn the nuances of a language than through a native speaker.  The classes have also been great for building and developing the Filipino culture across New Zealand and in giving John a valuable experience as a student teacher.

John also belongs to a group called Virtual Merianda, which connects college aged Filipino students nationwide. This online group allows students to build cultural connections and to discuss how to promote awareness of the Filipino culture and language.

If you would like to know more about VLNP Tagalog classes or make an enrolment visit the VLN Primary Website.
