Māori language for beginners - Te Waharoa

Tewaiehu Savage —

If you have always wanted to learn te reo Māori, take your first steps here with NEX Kōtuitui in our Te Waharoa ki Te Reo Māori program for teachers.

Te Waharoa - is what Māori refer to as the entrance or gateway to a marae or pā. We welcome you to join our whānau (family) and start your journey today.

Through this program you will learn pronunciation and simple sentence structure to introduce yourself and be equipped with the tools to engage in conversations.

Tikanga Māori is weaved throughout the program and encourages individuals to make deeper, meaningful connections with te ao māori, themselves and the language through karakia (prayer), waiata (songs) and pepeha (proverbial saying).

This pilot program is aimed at supporting teachers to develop and practice these taonga tuku iho (gifts) and contribute to Teaching Council requirements for registration. We predict it will be popular and highly recommend you enroll early to avoid disappointment. Registrations close 30th June.

Please find the registration form here.

We look forward to hearing from you.
