Te Rito: Know Me Before You Teach Me
The Ministry of Education's Te Rito is a one-stop platform to track the education journeys of our ākonga.
Having a place to securely store data about an ākonga's learning history, their strengths and learning needs is a vital part of their continued success on their education journey.
Since 2021, the Ministry of Education in partnership with sector working groups Ngā Rau Whakatupu, has been developing such a platform: Te Rito.
Te Rito allows schools to connect their student management systems (SMS) to a secure national database, so that when an ākonga moves to another school, their information travels with them.
This has the potential to leave no gaps in their education journey.
We were joined by MoE representatives for a webinar on how Te Rito can mitigate the time-consuming task of re-entering SMS notes when a school receives a new ākonga. It also means ākonga and their whanau do not need to keep retelling their story at each new school.
Te Rito aims to:
Connect schools, learners and eventually their whānau with learning information in one place.
Enables an end-to-end record that follows the learner as they move between schools.
Supports inter-school collaboration by connecting schools and staff within them.
Creates a common view across Kāhui Ako, clusters and national-reach schools.
Streamlines admin and reporting – reducing manual, double-handling of information.
Includes a range of optional features and functions that schools can choose to use.
