The NEX Kōtuitui Lead team assembled back in 2021 as a way of formalising the structure of Professional Development in the network, and to foster connections across other Nexes. Nex Kōtuitui is supported by the Ministry of Education through Teacher Development Aotearoa.
Your team for 2024
Rachel Whalley
Rachel is a primary-trained and New Zealand-registered teacher experienced in elearning, facilitation and teacher professional development. Rachel's expertise is in blended- and online-learning, project planning and development, online learning communities, pedagogy and curriculum development for online teaching and learning.
Lucie Lindsay
Lucie is Deputy Principal at Kōtui Ako VLN (Virtual Learning Network) School (Primary) and eLearning Lead. She is a Kōtuitui Online Teachers NEX (Network of Expertise) Lead Teacher. Lucie's PhD in Education is from the University of Sydney, School of Education and Social Work. It was on teacher professional learning and design for knowledge-building, innovative, technology-enhanced networked learning.
Lynda Walsh-Pasco
Lynda currently works as a NetNZ teacher and Lead Teacher for Kotuitui Nex Expertise. Previously she was as Executive Leader (Support) for NetNZ and taught at Roxburgh Area School where she was Senior Dean responsible for students in Year 11-13, the Careers Advisor, HOD Physical Education/Health (Year 7-13), HOD Sport and the HOD of Distance Learning/eDean. Lynda was selected as an e-fellow by the Ministry of Education in 2004, and as part of this she was selected to represent New Zealand at the International Microsoft Conference in Seattle.
Tewaiehu Savage
Tewai has joined the Kōtui Ako VLN leadership team as a Kaiarahi/Kaiako Reo Māori to work with the growing number of kura and Kaiako needing support for te reo Māori me ōna tikanga and support for ākonga who are accessing our online reo Māori programmes.
She is a registered teacher, with a background in ECE. She has a Bachelor in Te Reo Māori and Tikanga Māori, Graduate Diploma in Teaching, and is am working towards a Masters of Educational leadership. She is experienced in supporting Kaiako with tikanga Māori and te reo Māori.
Sue McCarthny
Sue has been working in the online learning environment for the past 12 years. She established HarbourNet, an online community of Auckland Secondary Schools, working within the Virtual Learning Network Community. She has worked in a leadership role with the Online Learning Community and subsequently Kōtui Ako Secondary. She currently delivers Education for Sustainability L2 and L3, and has also taught Tourism and Geography online over the years. On a personal level, family, friends and sport are her passions.
Grant Collie
Grant is a Psychology eTeacher with KōtuitAko. He has a special interests in social justice and robotics. He has completed an MA and BA (History), Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Museum Studies.
His major focus over the last few years has been digital engagement and online learning along with curriculum review and development.
Katherine Stewart
Katherine has worked in both the secondary and primary spaces. She is the Communications Lead for NEX Kōtuitui in 2024. Her special interests are the impacts of AI in education and delivering practical subjects online.
