Science Learning - Photosynthesis

Shelley Collis —

The KLC have been learning about plants in Science, this week we have been focussing on the process of photosynthesis.

We have learned that photosynthesis is the process that plants use to convert energy from the sun into energy that the plant can use. In order for photosynthesis to occur, there needs to be sunlight, chlorophyll (in the green parts of a plant), carbon dioxide (from the air) and water (which is absorbed through the plant's root system). The process occurs in the chloroplasts, and the result is: sugar in the form of glucose (which the plant uses for energy), and oxygen (which is a bi-product released into the air).

In our week of learning about photosynthesis we have watched videos, explored diagrams, acted out the process as well as creating 3D models. We thought like scientists, noting flaws in particular diagrams and made sure we made our models clear for others to understand.

We have attached some photos of our work, but you can see a virtual tour of our exhibition on the school's Facebook page.
