LBS —

In order to help your preschool child make a successful transition to school life we will invite you and your child to make two or three visits to the New Entrant class for the first part of the morning, during the month before they start school. Most children settle in well after two or three visits but some children will benefit from further visits. Please discuss this with the Principal or the new entrant class teacher. All children are different and will have different needs.

Have you…

  • Been shown around the school classrooms and grounds?

  • Completed the enrolment/other forms and returned them to the office?

  • Brought your child’s birth certificate and immunisation record (new entrants only) for sighting?

  • Met the class teacher?

  • Arranged for pre-school visits?

  • Given any needed medication to the office and authorised its administration in writing?

New starters are paired with a Year 8 buddy, who will check on them, sit with them at assembly and support them at school events, when possible.  This is a special relationship (tuakaina teina) which we encourage and value.

The First Day

In order that your child’s first day at school goes as smoothly as possible, please consider the following suggestions:

  • Organise your time so that you are not rushed

  • Think about how long you would like to stay in the classroom on the first day and discuss this with the teacher

  • Make sure you have let your child know of your intentions, especially if you think there may be tears

  • Enjoy your child’s first day

  • Put your plan of action into place

  • Have something to do, or somewhere to go, once your child is happily engaged in the classroom, reassuring him/her that you will be back to pick them up at the agreed time

Forms

There are forms we require you to fill out as part of enrolling your child. You are able to locate copies of these from our school website.

School Uniform

Children do wear a uniform to school. This can be obtained from the Hornby Warehouse as part of the School Tex range. Please send pupils to school in their school uniform every day. Our uniform is a statement about Ladbrooks School and we encourage children to wear their uniform with pride.

Hats

Blue brimmed or bucket school hats must be worn in Term 1 and 4.

All school uniform items need to be named.

Nude Lunchboxes

As an Enviro-School, we encourage children to have no wrappers in their lunchboxes. Children who have ‘nude’ lunchboxes and are responsible eaters, have the opportunity to eat outside on nice days. On Friday's PALs offer an opportunity to purchase lunch.

Scooters/ Bikes

Children are welcome to bring scooters and bikes to school. They must have a helmet in order to ride. Children must walk their scooters and bikes in school grounds.
