'Patupaiarehe' Fairy Garden construction underway
KLC's Janna Bee had a vision of creating a beautiful and magical space to imagine and dream. This has started to be realised this week with the planting of stage one ground covers, herbs and other shade loving plants on Monday.
Janna's successful application to the Ministry of Education to create this space resulted in a healthy budget to purchase plants and resources to develop a creative space in our school grounds.
Having purchased the plants and safely stored them in the shade house just before the holidays, Janna led groups of students from KLC through the initial plant out of the garden this week.
An important first step was to run water down to the back field which was achieved successfully with a supportive team of helpers and cooperative irrigation tube.
Next, other children from the KLC learning community offered their assistance to pop the various plants into the ground following Janna's plan.
They all look really great and we look forward in coming weeks to installing path edging using flat river stones and also constructing a small picket fence to protect the plants as they grow.
Janna says, "It has been great to have all the support from students to help create this garden for our school. I couldn't do it on my own. It's looking amazing and that's just the start of it."
Keep an eye out for updates as the project progresses.
