Food for Thought November

Nicola Toki New Zealand's threatened species Ambassador for DoC

Nicola's role is about raising profile and awareness of the 3000+ threatened species in New Zealand, the threats they face and the action we can take to address them.

A Waipara local, Nicola is keen for the community to take an active interest in our area's wildlife and is currently working on a "Predator Free Waipara" to get a trapping group up and running in her neighbourhood and on nearby Mt Cass, which has one of the best examples of an intact thriving limestone ecosystem and is home to a myriad of threatened plants, and native birds and lizards. She regularly travels N.Z to visit communities, scientists, business and individuals who are doing their bit to protect our precious native flora and fauna.
