BYOD - Bring your own Device

Rob Cavanagh —

Information about our BYOD (bring your own device) technology programme.

In 2023 Leithfield School will continue with our BYOD (bring your own device) technology programme. There are three main reasons for BYOD:

  • To allow for students to access digital learning at home and school.

  • To support the transition to local high schools where BYOD is already in place.

  • To support the school with a more financially sustainable model for device procurement.

The BYOD programme is available to students in Years 5 to 8. BYOD is not compulsory. If your child does not bring their own device then the school will still provide them with one.

Type of device

Chromebooks are the only device eligible for BYOD. We have found Chromebook to be the most robust, reliable and cost effective option for device procurement.

Responsible Use

All students who BYOD will be required to sign a responsible use agreement that reflects the circumstances of a BYOD environment, including that the school will take no responsibility for repairs, breakages, the provision of charging, or device security. The school will still be able to track the device and the school’s usual filtering protocols will remain in place. It is recommended that appropriate skins (decals) and other custom touches are used to physically identify a device from others. Additionally, protective cases for technology are encouraged. Accidental damage insurance can be purchased for Chromebooks. Many providers will be able to offer this at the time of purchase.

You can purchase devices at a variety of stores. PB Tech is an online option and the schools current provider for technology. They have special pricing for Leithfield School through their BYOD portal. Warehouse Stationery have many options with a student discount. Work and Income can also assist eligible clients and some families.
