Worm Farming
The Teoteo Team has been getting their hands dirty helping out with the two worm farms that Ange set up in the Treemendous area.
Our team has been learning about worm farming and how to turn our organic food waste into rich fertilizer for our garden area.
Ange taught us that there are certain types of food scraps that don’t make good compost for worms. You should avoid feeding worms meat and dairy products as these can attract unwanted pests. Also onions, citrus peel and tomatoes are very acidic and should be avoided too. As such, our team will be removing these items from the food scraps that we put into our worm farms on a weekly basis to ensure that we have productive worm farms.
Our team has been learning that by adding worms to our compost, they can help speed up the decomposition process. This is great when you have a lot of food scraps! In addition to the worm compost, the worm juice produced by the worms is also a great source of nutrients to add to the school’s lovely gardens!
The Teoteo Team is excited to be working together on a weekly basis to keep the worm farms running throughout the school year.
