Puketeraki Kahui Ako update

Sharon Marsh —

All of our teachers have this week attended a half-day session with teachers from our other kahui ako schools for professional learning around the new tool that was created last year. The next part of this professional learning programme involves our teachers visiting other schools across our community of learning to observe the teaching and learning occurring there. From the work in our own school and visits to other schools, they will then collaboratively work with other teachers to develop 'artefacts' (videos/pictures/stories of learning) that make visible the outcomes we have identified as most valuable for our students to have across the kahui. In two weeks time all our teachers will also be participating in a professional interest network group which will also help to connect them to other teachers from throughout the wider school community.

All Principals, including myself, are this year involved in a programme of learning around the Indicators of Success for Māori Students within our schools. These indicators have been identified by Ngāi Tahu and they are supporting school leaders to reflect on their own school practices and to collaboratively develop action plans with their staff, students and community.

This year our Kahui has been able to employ 11 Learning Support Coordinators who are working across all of our schools. Over the last two days I joined these 11 amazing, talented, experienced teachers for their formal 'induction' with the Ministry of Education. We are extremely fortunate to have such a valuable additional resource available to our school. The Learning Support Coordinator currently working in our school is Nicky Lotz who was formally a teacher at Amberley School and was also the SENCO - Special Needs Coordinator.
