STOP PRESS!

Sharon Marsh —

We have just been notified that there will be a Paid Union Meeting for all NZEI members on Thursday 9 May.

As per our usual organisation, we ask that you make arrangements to collect your child/ren from school at the start of the lunch break (12:40pm).  Maggi will again be offering After School Care from this time should you wish to make use of it. Please contact her directly.

If you are not able to make any arrangements, please let us know.

Many thanks for your continuing support. Teachers and Principals across the country are feeling under-valued and that our concerns are not being taken seriously or even listened to. Whilst the Government keeps quoting large salary increases within the current offer, this is disingenuous at best and an outright lie at worst. Teachers and Principals are united that although we believe that as a profession we have fallen behind in pay parity and deserve a significant pay increase,(evidenced by an increasing lack of numbers entering or staying in the profession) our major claim is for more time to teach and more time to lead rather than endless compliance tasks and lack of support around challenging children whose numbers have been steadily increasing in classrooms throughout the country - these are the main reasons we are holding fast.....we want better outcomes for learners and we want to achieve that through being properly resourced and having quality, well-trained teachers and effective support services readily available to assist in achieving those positive outcomes. We know that every parent wants the best for their child too so on this we are united!
