Aniwaniwa Camp

Rob Cavanagh —

Aniwaninwa had an awesome time at the Canterbury Museum and the Overnight School Camp

At the museum we took part in two lessons 'Iwi Tawhito Whenua Hou' and 'Life in Christchurch'. We found out what life was like for the early Polynesian people that first came to New Zealand and how they got here. We also learned about what it was like in Christchurch throughout the mid 19th century. We enjoyed lunch in Botanic Gardens and saw the flower wall in memory of the mosque attacks. In the evening we came back to school and slept overnight in the hall. We toasted marshmallows, played spotlight outside and other games indoors. Here is what some students had to say about the Aniwaniwa camp.

It was really fun going to the Museum and knowing about the Polynesian arrival and getting to use the fire tool and the drill - Tahlia

I got to see all of my friends after school - Frankie

I liked spot light because it was fun - Te Ana

I liked how we got to go to the Museum and play spot light - Augustine

I loved how we played spotlight and also how good the hiding spots in school were - Maggie

Thank you for saying that we can have camp because we all really enjoyed that. The part that I liked most was going to the Museum and we learnt about how the Maori came - Hayley

When the old people killed the animals they killed all sorts of animals like kea and kiwi - Joshua
