We now have our own Leithfield School bees! Thanks to Tūī and organisation "Bee Awesome"

Lesley from Bee Awesome told us about the 3 needs that bees have: Whare (hive), wai (water) and kai (food). We have been working hard to meet these needs as we welcomed the bees on site last week.

T`ūī used their technology skills to make bee watering stations. We learning that bees need to have a way to perch or land on something while they drink. A big trough or bucket wouldn't work. This became our brief and the students all made a range of designs that are now in the garden around the hive.

Tūī learnt about the different flowers that the bees like for their kai. Lesley and Tūī found that there is already a lot of flowers in the area around the hive location for the bees but have also planted some seeds. When they grow into seedlings, we will plant them in the garden near the hive.

The hive was brought by Lesley and her beekeeper. We made bee frames for the hive to help the bees. We then helped to move the bees into their new hive.

Enjoy the photos! They all have captions so that should help you understand all the awesome things happening in them 😊
