Kaitiakitanga - guardianship and protection over our environment

Please check your child's HERO page for their latest learning artefact. These artefacts share learning from our Kaitiakitanga inquiry. This inquiry has led to diverse learning opportunities across the school as our students increase their understanding of the role we play in looking after our planet.

Our Y8 William Pike students spent some time on Wednesday afternoon planting and gardening at Coppards Reserve. In order to complete the challenge, they need to record 20 hours of community service, 20 hours of a passion project and take part in 5 outdoor activities. These challenges test and grow their leadership skills, teamwork and resilience. Later in this term, we will hold our second outdoor activity by hiking Mt Thomas.

There have been plenty of red shirts rushing past my office window over the past few days as our students begin their training for this year's Cross Country. Weather permitting, we will be hosting this on 8th June. We hope to see plenty of parents this year participating in the parent race! Once again there are prizes on offer courtesy of the Neylon family.

We are seeing an increase in student illness with Covid and other bugs. This is a timely reminder about keeping your child home when unwell. Please continue to let us know if your child tests positive for Covid and ensure you follow the 7-day isolation period.

As the weather gets colder, we are noticing some additions to our school uniform from some students. A reminder that students should be wearing the school uniform fleeces only with non-uniform jackets/beanies allowed to be worn to and from school and during outdoor breaks on cold days.

A very warm welcome to Max who joined Kiwi class this week. We are so glad to have you at our Kura.

A note regarding industrial action for teachers and principals:

Recent developments have led to a cessation of all industrial action across the sector. All actions have been suspended by those covered by the NZEI TRR Primary and Principal Collective Agreements. We all remain hopeful for positive progress and that the suspension is extended. At the earliest possible time, we will inform you whether the suspension remains in place or if/when further industrial action is happening.

Have a great weekend!
