From the Principal
The amazing learning experiences keep coming as we approach the mid-point of Term 1!
Our Waiswim lessons have finished, but the pool is still in use by our students every day so please support your child to bring their swimming gear. This week we held our senior swimming sports and junior swim carnival. Check out the article in this newsletter for pics and results. We know it is hard for our community to not be at events such as this and we look forward to welcoming large groups back on-site once the CPF settings are relaxed :)
Our whole school conceptual inquiry is getting underway in classes. This will run through to mid Term 2. Our key concept is manaakitanga and we aim for students to grow their understanding that - healthy relationships enrich our lives and require nurturing in order to develop. This will lead to a range of diverse learning programmes across our kura and we will be engaging with a number of agencies to support e.g. Life Education, NZ Police, St John and Fire & Emergency.
There has been a significant rise in COVID cases nationwide and we are prepared for cases to increase in our school community. Please remain vigilant for symptoms, and if in doubt, keep your child at home and conduct a test. If your child or somebody in your household tests positive for COVID-19, then please let me know via phone or email as soon as possible.
This year we are trialling a new student leadership structure. This will consist of Head Students selected from our senior class and a Student Council comprised of class representatives from each class in the school. Their job is to investigate solutions to problems/challenges they face around our school and the local area. Our whānau/house leaders will also continue. A whānau leader's job is to organise house meetings, activities and support for whole school events. Our student leaders will be introduced to our school at next Monday's student only assembly and we will share their achievements with our community via FB and/or newsletter.
A warm welcome to Olivia Gardener who joins our staff as a teacher aide. Olivia will be supporting our learning programmes across the school for the next 10 weeks.
Our new build is planned to start on the 21st March. A reminder that you can see some images of what the final product might look like here.
On Friday, we will be sharing our first learning artefact for the year through HERO. A learning artefact is something that demonstrates learning. It makes learning visible to parents and provides opportunities for celebrating progress and planning future learning goals and experiences. Learning artefacts will be posted onto your child's learning story page on HERO. You will receive either a push notification or email once it is published.
