Sean's Spot

Sean Bailey —

As we head towards the end of the term, our learners have been engaged in a number of experiences and we continue to see our vision 'the best of you as you' alive each and every day!

Will and Gus from Canterbury Hockey have been here over the last three weeks teaching fundamental hockey skills. They have been really impressed with not only our learners skill development but also the GRIT they have demonstrated. I can vouch for that while observing these sessions taking place!

One of my highlights this week has been learners arriving down in admin asking if they can share their learning with me. It's awesome to see the smiles on their faces when receiving  feedback around their work. There are always a number of amazing things happening at this school and we should never lose sight of that.

A big thank you to those members of our school community who contributed to the morning tea on Monday. We appreciated being acknowledged for keeping our learners, parents/caregivers and staff safe on the 15.3. Thank you also to the Board of Trustees who shouted the staff a hot drink on Tuesday.

Over the coming weeks we will continue to support those who have been affected by this tragic event. This week our staff and board gave Rakesh and Katherine (our cleaners) and Daniel (one of our staff) a peace lily to recognise the friends they lost or who were injured.

As mentioned in a previous eNews we are carrying out a review of our lockdown procedures. If you would like to contribute to this, please email your suggestions/next steps to bot@lemonwoodgrove.school.nz.

We strongly advise you to read the article about Assessment and Reporting in this eNews . At the end of term 1 last year we consulted with you around our current practices. Your feedback has been really useful around strengthening our systems.

Over the last 12 months we have been waiting for a directive from the Ministry of Education around what system we should put into place to replace the National Standards which were abolished at the end of 2017.  Because this has not eventuated, we have decided to move towards Progression based reporting which aligns very well with the New Zealand Curriculum. Thank you to the parents who offered to read over and give us feedback around these changes.

And to finish off this week some fantastic poems from Kereru. Thank you Lisa for sharing.
