Jen Hodgkinson —

It is the end of another successful week of learning and engagement.

This week our teaching team have been working on establishing our Professional Learning Groups (PLGs).  We have identified 3 main focus areas for 2020:

- Play is powerful learning:  During 2020 we are focusing on ensuring all learners make at least 1 years progress through the lens of Mathematics.  This week the leadership team had the privilege of working with Judith Callaghan from the Ministry of Education guiding us around best practice in this area.

- Cultural Responsiveness: Embedding Te Reo and Te Ao Maori through our learning programmes.

- Relationship Management: Implementing Play is the Way behaviour to support our learners social and emotional skills.

This week the learners have been focusing on developing the Key Concept (referred to as a Life Raft) of 'Treat others as you would like them to treat you'.  Each concept is unpacked using activities and scenarios that encourage reflection, critical thinking and discussion.

With things beginning to return to a new version of normal, it is easy to slip back into old habits online.

The internet is a powerful tool that has far reaching implications for our tamariki. We do hear stories of children who have problems on social media type programmes. Apps like TikTok, snapchat, instagram can be positive if they are used correctly. Many of these apps/ programmes have an age restriction for a reason. If you as a parent choose to let your child access these, please make sure you are aware of what they are posting. Once something has been posted, it can be very hard to remove.

We are very excited to have our new principal Blair onsite next week as part of his induction to LWG. He will have the chance to spend time in all of the spaces, getting to know our learners. Please make sure to say hello.

With the prospect of easing restrictions and beginning the journey to level 1, we are beginning to plan our farewell for Sean. Sean played such a huge role in shaping who we are as a school and we want to give him an appropriate send-off. Stay tuned for more information.
