North Canterbury Wearable Arts Competition
Two weekends ago Lincoln High School had nine students involved in the Northern Canterbury Wearable Arts competition.
On Friday the 30th of August students got their hair and makeup done and we all went in the school van to Rangiora for the full-dress rehearsal and judging session. The girls looked amazing and even though they were a bit nervous they didn’t show it once they were on stage. On Saturday they had a Matinee show at 2pm and the main show at 7pm with the winners announced. The parents were all there to support the girls, which was a proud moment for all the families involved. I want to congratulate all the girls for their hard work over the past two/three terms getting their garments finished, they all looked fabulous and the hard work paid off. We had four awards. In the Environment section Alexandra Causer came second with her 60s inspired garment made from old computer punch cards, Sarah McDougall, Aria Lyver and Caitlin Watson came third with their LGBTQ+ inspired rainbow coloured dress made from Resene paint pallets. In the Open Section, Sarah Giles came second with her playing cards dress and Cassandra Ngo came third with her Vietnamese inspired dress made from toi toi and plants. We also had some other great garments involved, Rosa Dunbar with her cloud inspired garment made from stuffing and Ardra Heffer who made a dress from chip packets. Well done girls, I look forward to seeing them entered in the Art Couture Show at the Lincoln Event Centre in the coming school holidays.
