LU Netball Premier A side peaking in time for Finals
Lincoln University Premier A Netball recorded a great win over Technical A 58-55 on Tuesday
In one of the toughest games of the season the Lincoln Ladies managed to hold their composure and play to a level not seen for a whole game this season. They were accurate with their passes and shooting and had the right mix of energy and aggression to not only keep in touch with Tech but to overtake them in the final minutes to claim the victory.
The side was able to keep ahead of Tech, who had beaten them by 16 points in round one and 8 in round two, at the end of the first quarter 15-12 and were able to maintain a one point lead at the half time break 28-27.
The traditional third quarter slump was conspicuous in its absence at the YMCA although Technical were able to pull out to a three point lead 44-41 at the end of the penultimate quarter. It is in the final quarter that the resolve and effort from the hard training began to show with the ladies being able to not only pull back the deficit but build up goals to take out the match by three 58-55 through some excellent shooting and tenacious defence.
There is no chance for the team to rest on their laurels as they have a top of the table clash against Kereru A next Tuesday at 6:30pm with the final match of the Championship round against St Nicholas A the following week at 8:05pm. The second and third placed teams will play off in the semi-finals with the winner playing the first placed side that earns a week off before the final.
