This week we have welcomed three UC+trainee teachers who are on their last week before embarking on their teaching careers. It has been a pleasure having Georgia, Lisa and Charlotte at our school.
Pasifika Fono
Last Thursday, we held our first Pasifika fono. Our fono was opened by one of the Ministry of Education Pasifika team- Jason Tiatia, who welcomed everyone. It was a fabulous night of connections, conversation, delicious food, and performance. Fa'afetai lava,Jason for your support.
I would like to fa'afetai everyone who came. Special thanks to Albany Peseta of "Pasifika Dance Academy' fame for giving his time to support our Pasifika extension group on the night and to Mrs Victoria Brookland who organised the event and sourced such delicious food. Fa'afetai lava also to Mr Colin Hill and to Mrs Brookland's sister Liz, for their support .
Attendance
By law, unless your children are sick, they should be attending school every day.The Ministry of Education's expectation is that each child's attendance is over 90% for the year. 90% plus attendance is the bench mark for a child to make the right amount of progress for the year and be on track to get NZCEA.
Every parent wants his/her tamariki to succeed. Coming to school everyday is one of the most important contributors to success. Please see our policy attached to this newsletter.
Heads up!
The Teacher's union NZEI have just announced that there will be paid union meetings in November. Because some meetings are already booked out, we have opted for Thursday 17 November. On this day, tamariki will need to be picked up at 12:30 pm .There will be a notice about this very soon.
The playground
The playground is taking shape.Everyday there is something new to see.
Top Team
There is always something fun happening at Linwood Avenue.
It is great to be able to have 'Top Team' back in our school.
'Top Team' is a series of team building challenges designed to promote problem-solving, communication and teamwork while having lots of fun. Tamariki are teamed up and compete against one another to be the Top Team. Who will it be the top Tear 5/6 and Year 3/4 team ?
Our Board held their monthly meeting yesterday. The Board reviewed two policies :- Health & Safety and Alcohol, Drugs & other harmful substances as part of the policy review.
The Board confirmed permanent appointments for three teachers , Lisa Cowie, Rianna Fuller, and Viv Gribben. The Board has sadly accepted Sophie Mulligan's resignation.
The next meeting is Tuesday 29 November at 1:30pm in the meeting room.
Swimming
Next week there are swimming lessons for all of our tamariki at Te Pou Linwood, thanks to the Christchurch City Council.
Just a reminder that school finishes on Wednesday 14 December at 3pm.
Have a great weekend!
