Tēnā tātou i raro i te maru o Ngāi Tahu, Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou katoa,  Hola, Talofa lava, Malo e lelei, Kamusta, Namastee, Namaskāra, Ni sa bula vinaka, Kia orana, Fakatalofa atu, As-salamu Alaikum.

Kia ora e te whānau,

It is hard to believe that this is the last newsletter of 2024.

I want to take this opportunity to thank all those who have supported our school. In particular our Board of Trustees whose work is often unnoticed but never the less is extremely important, especially dealing with all of the legislation and regulations that schools must comply with.

Thank you also to our newly revitalised and very caring Friends of Linwood. Their enthusiasm knows no bounds and the work they do raises money for our tamariki, but they also focusing on fun and community. Thank you to all our whānau who supported class trips.Schools rely on partnerships with whānau to make them work.

Thanks to those who have supported the school financially. Your help does not go unnoticed, so thank you from the whole team here at Te Huarahi .

Lastly, a huge mihi nui to the wonderful staff at our school, who go above and beyond in all they do! I feel so lucky to have such a fabulous staff and community.

Next week is our last week for the year. School finishes at 3pm on Friday 13 December.

Class Visits this week

On Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, our tamariki visited the class they are going to be in for 2025.

Staff Changes

As always at the end of every school year, there are some staffing changes.

We are sadly farewelling Miss Teresa Kim who has a position at Aidanfield Christian School and Angela Bond who has a position at Rakaia School.

Lisa Cowie will be in a Literacy Intervention Role for 2025 supporting the Junior school.

We have two teachers on Maternity leave - Miss Tess Meha and Miss Maria Joyce.

We are welcoming . . . Miss Laura Bundy and Miss Megan Halligan to the Year 3/4 team and Miss Naomi Turner to New Entrants in Rūma 4.

School Uniform

From the beginning of term 1, the new school uniform will be compulsory to wear.

Uniforms can be tried on for correct sizing at the office and need to be ordered online at Aly Mclean Apparel.

Please note that you can pay the uniform off in instalments.

The City Mission and WINZ are able to support whānau to buy uniform.

The uniform is delivered to school for pick up, usually on a Wednesday.

There maybe some second hand uniform for sale at the beginning of the school year.

Leavers Assembly

The Leaver's assembly this year will be next week on Thursday 12th December. This special assembly is a whole school event at which we recognise a range of achievements, celebrate our year, and farewell our Year 6 students. It’s a chance for everyone at school to acknowledge our senior students and wish them all the best for the next step in their learning journey.

Enrolments 2025

If you know of any tamariki who will be starting school in Term 1 2025 please let us know. This means we can plan carefully for class numbers.

Hats for Term 4

Our Sun Smart policy requires all tamariki to wear a School sunhat in Terms 1 and 4. Tamariki not wearing hats are required to play in the shade.

All tamariki who start at our school, are given a school sunhat with their name embroidered on it. If your child loses their sunhat you will need to buy a new hat for your child. A named school hat costs $14.10 and can be ordered from the school office.

Stationery 2025

Our school heavily subsidises the Stationery that our tamariki get.

We do this because we want our tamariki to have the best stationery for our school requirements. Everyone has the same quality.

Our Stationery Packs will be $35. Payable at the office by cash or eftpos. You can also make arrangements at the office to pay this off weekly, fortnightly etc.

Individual Hui Ako/Learning meetings:

Monday 3 & Tuesday 4 Feb

The Hero booking app for these meetings will soon go live.

Please make a time for your whānau. This is really important for setting everyone up for success at the beginning of the year.

Attendance

Next year, the government has requested daily attendance updates from schools.

Coming to school every day means better learner progress.
