Gretchen's Update

Gretchen Smith —

We are living in a time of rapid change and it is time to refresh our school/kura vision. Our school vision needs to be owned by the school and its community.

Thursday 23 September/Rāpare 23 Mahuru/ Aso Tofi 23 Setema / Huwebe  23 Setyembre 2021

Kia ora e te whānau

We have had great news from Ngāi Tahui and they are ready to gift us  our school name which will relate to our local area. Unfortunately we will need to wait for  Alert Level 1 for this to take place.

Next week ,staff, board, whānau and tamariki will have the opportunity to be part of some very important mahi for our kura/school.

Kerry Hall, from 'Grow Waitaha', will work with some tamariki, the staff and the board to think about what qualities and skills our tamariki are going to need in the next  5, 10 and 13 years.  For our Year 1 tamariki,  their last year of High school will be 2035.Think of what that might look like!

This  mahi/work will inform the plan for our kura/school and our teaching and learning programmes. What qualities our Year 6 leavers will have when they move along the learning pathway. For example, your whānau might value the environment, or the arts.

On Monday, our teachers will work with our tamariki and discuss what  they think they will need in the future and what the future might look like.

Then they will bring some homework for your whānau to work on together about what you all think is important. Please  return  your mahi to the office by Friday 1st October. You may want to do this work on line. The link for this will be posted on Tuesday on facebook and sent home in an email.

You might want to already be thinking about what qualities are important for you and your whānau.

At the moment our school vision is " Success for learning" and our values are Respect, Excellence, Attitude, and Lifelong learning.

Looking forward to reading your ideas!

Be safe, be kind and fair.

Have a great weekend! Kia pai tō mutunga wiki!
