Waiporoporo House Dean's Report

Garth Lewis —

Kia ora, and warm greetings from the Waiporoporo whānau.

As we come to the end of Term 2 we have learned a lot. We have learned to pick ourselves up and continue with the learning journey. We have focused on personal re-appraisals, deliberate planning and meaningful community interaction.

In Waiporoporo we continue to focus on acceleration through Maori Ora. We have spent great moments, teachers and ākonga alike, seeing how we can better incorporate this vision into the life of everything we do at Linwood College and the greater community.

It was great to see learners re-engaging in group sport activities, maintaining the balance between physical and mental stimulation. We also had the privilege of hosting grad student teachers who injected great fervour into classroom interactions, from reinforcing times tables on the ukulele to refereeing house netball competitions. Waiporoporo fought well on the courts backed by our passionate kaiārahi fan base.

Wā Whakanui and academic conference interviews allowed learners to share integral learning experiences with their families and teachers. What a privilege to witness some amazing presentations from our juniors, and well thought out focus areas for our seniors. Meeting with whānau face to face and allowing us to share and celebrate our learners’ progress is invaluable.

We look forward to a meaningful third term with very intentional choices that create positive outcomes for our ākonga. Let us be passionate about our convictions and dare to act on them. As a legend in time, Albert Einstein has said, "I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious."
