Doris Lusk Reserve: interactive artwork for children

Emily Whiteman —

LCŌ students contribute to the selection process for public artwork in our community.

As part of the Re-generate Christchurch projects, the Christchurch City Council has sought submissions for a public artwork for the Doris Lusk Reserve in Linwood Village on Stanmore Road.

The brief was for an artwork that was interactive and playful, child-centric and designed to bring families into the reserve, and bring life to the village.

Doris Lusk was a significant New Zealand painter in the 70s. She was also an art educator. It was only fitting three of our Linwood College young female art students sat on the selection panel to provide input to honour Doris with this artwork.

Chelsea Smith, Maia Henderson, and Alice Ross attended the selection panel held at the East Linwood Gallery in the Linwood Village.

All the young woman represented LCŌ well and contributed thoughtful and insightful feedback. They spoke with confidence to a room full of adults. The ladies were rewarded with $50 vouchers to Gordon Harris in thanks for their contributions.

An artwork has been selected, and the city council are now working with the artists to finalise the details. We can't share who's it is yet, but we will let you know.
