Koru Games a Huge Success for Kimihia te Mātauranga

Jesse Harding —

Linwood College Year 7 and 8's participated in the Koru Games. They played Kī-o-Rahi for three days and represented our kura extremely well.

Our young students represented our kura so well this week. They played with joy, energy, sportsmanship and showed a huge amount of whanaungatanga and manaakitanga during our three days at the Koru Games playing Kī-O-Rahi.

I could not have been more impressed with our students as Matiu Carruth and Kiara Poi did an excellent job as captains for the two teams, both growing in their leadership this week.

Our students played so many games and won a lot of them. They ended up playing each other for 9th out of 20 teams. They ended up having a draw and both finished 9th equal. It was a great way to finish the tournament. There was also a staff vs students game where the students played the adults. Our own sports coordinator, Jade Cull was tremendous as our kaitiaki, defending the tupu, she even scored a great try. Mr Harding also participated and scored multiple times.

Our students made friendships with other schools, were playing with other students during the down-time in between games and were so lovely to be around over the three days. They started friendly games with Te Waka Unua on their own agency to build friendships and have fun. Tarquin Tata made the tournament team as well which was great as he improved so much and was a great role-model over the three days.

Mauri Ora!
