LCŌ update 5: face coverings-masks

Richard Edmundson —

Do your children catch a bus? This is an update from the Ministry of Education on the wearing of face coverings (face masks).

Kia ora ē te whānau

The following is edited information from the Ministry of Education about the Prime Minister's announcement that:

from this Monday August 31 it will be compulsory for members of the public to wear face coverings on public transport when in alert level 2 and above.

From the Ministry of Education:

Understandably the Ministry of Education has been getting a lot of questions about the requirement to wear face coverings on public transport, and whether this will apply to school transport.

Yesterday (Tuesday) the Minister of Health announced that he would set out more details on Thursday (tomorrow) including how the rules will work in practice on public transport and what will be asked of passengers and operators. The Minister of Education will announce at the same time what requirements will be in place for school transport.

The Ministry of Education will provide specific advice and guidance for schools and early learning services soon after that announcement.

Guidance for the requirement to wear face coverings on public transport is also being developed by the Ministry of Transport and Waka Kotahi | New Zealand Transport Agency.

Next communication:

My next communication will be as soon as we receive the guidance from the Ministry of Education. I assume that will be later today and early Week 7.

Go well.
