Kōwhai Whānau Rōpū Dean's Report

Jesse Harding —

An update from the Kōwhai Dean.

Kia ora koutou.

We are at the midway point of Term 3 already. There are five weeks to go this term and then five weeks in Term 4 before our seniors go on exam leave. Therefore, it is so important our learners are in class and working hard to achieve NCEA Level One, Two, or Three. Our focus at present is academic achievement. Learning is our priority at Linwood College at Ōtakaro. In Week 8, you will have an opportunity to reconnect with your learners kaiārahi to discuss where they are at in regards to NCEA as part of Academic Conferencing. For our junior students (Year 9 - 10), this will be an opportunity to celebrate some learning from this term as part of the Wā Whakanui.

Currently, our students are looking at class option selection for next year. Choosing the right subjects is extremely important as we want to awhi our learners to have a pathway that suits them and their goals.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Martin-Bowen and our ten kaiārahi for their continued work with the Kōwhai whānau this term. Well done to all the students who participated in the spelling bee. Kōwhai finished 3rd equal.

The whakatauki I will leave you with this week is around aiming high, being persistent, and not letting anything get in the way of our goals. This links in nicely as we are choosing our subjects for 2021 and thinking about our careers and future goals.

Whāia te iti kahurangi ki te tūohu koe me he maunga teitei

Seek the treasure you value most dearly: if you bow your head, let it be to a lofty mountain

Ngā mihi nui,
Mr Jesse Harding
