Waiporoporo Dean's Report

Garth Lewis —

An update on our Waiporoporo Rōpū.

Kia ora. As we begin the final leg of our third term journey we focus on our academic pathways. This term our ākonga are encouraged to think critically about their option choices for next year. Our conversations will be structured around finding learning areas that are suited to the individual and then how we can do these with excellence. Let’s continue to create a culture of excellent work ethics, underpinned by inquiring minds.

For some of our seniors, we want to ensure they are adequately exposed to tertiary courses and asking the right questions to prepare them for these institutes. We will endeavour to help make calculated decisions around vocational pathways suited to students passions, skills and intrigue. We support our inquiring minds and want to best prepare them as a school, whānau and wider LCŌ community. We encourage our ākonga to use every resource available now to best prepare them for their future.

A reminder that Wā Whakanui and academic conferences will be held in Week 8 and we implore all caregivers to get in touch with us and make an appointment. What a great avenue to get involved with our ākonga and help support their academic planning and futures. Please use every moment to connect with your kaiārahi.

We had a thrilling end to our spelling bee, as Waiporoporo represented in the finals. We wait in anticipation for the final results and commend the learners who were involved, organisers, facilitators and judges.

As the year becomes busier, it is great that I also have the pleasure in announcing the recent appointment of an Assistant Dean for our Waiporoporo Rōpū, Lukas Davidson.

Let’s end these last few weeks with successful moments of learning and deeper whanaungatanga.
