Karaka House Dean's Report

Robbie Timo —

A review of all things related to students of the Karaka whānau for 2019.

Talofa lava.

Our focus for this term has been on uniform and lateness. We are a full uniform school and it is impressive to see our students and whānau take pride in the presentation of our school uniform. We also remind whānau and our community that we are able to support and assist in acquiring the correct attire if ever the need be. A big thanks to our guidance team who have done a wonderful job in supporting our students throughout the year, whether it's just been with a chat so they can be prepared for tough times or whether it was coping with exams, making good choices, or decisions over friendships.

This has been a year of change moving from Linwood College Aldwins Road to LC at Ōtākaro. But we are so fortunate to have moved into the beautiful surroundings with the trees, plants and of course the Avon river. If we think back to this time last year we spent a lot of time preparing the new House system that has guided our Kaiarahi, and students who represent each different house. The Dean's hub has been used to good effect and standing alongside Guidance, referral room and uniform shop my office has the best view. I even saw the wall of water that the recent tornado plucked out of the Avon.

Congratulations to our award winners at the Senior and soon to be Junior prizegivings. Recognition for all your hard work throughout the year is an achievement and a formation of good habits that will continue into your working life. Well done. Have a Merry Xmas and a safe New Year. 2020 is Olympics year and I am looking forward to our athletes proudly wearing the Silver fern. Kia kaha!
