Kākāriki House Dean's Report

Ethan Smith —

An update of all things related to students in the Kākāriki whānau.

Kia Ora, and warm greetings from Kākāriki house.

We had a successful Term Three, with a number of exciting achievements by some in our house. Firstly, we had our very own Meghan Kerr take out the Canterbury Young Enterprise Product Launch Award and the Tūranga Canterbury Young Enterprise People's Choice Award with her business “Pop Coin”. This also landed Meghan and her teammates in multiple news publications around Christchurch.

Secondly, we had a number of students involved in winter sports that drew to a close in Week Six of this term. We had students involved in Football, Basketball, Badminton, Netball, Jump Jam and many more. Some of our students have been very successful in their chosen sports, in fact too many for me to mention in this report. These students will all be celebrated in our Sports Awards taking place on the last Thursday of this term.

Thirdly, we had three students from Kākāriki throw their hat in the ring to be the student representative on the School Board of Trustees. From this school election process, Paigan-Lilly Watson-Hall was chosen by the student body to represent LCŌ students on the board.

And lastly, we had two house competitions this term, the house netball competition and the spelling bee. Kākāriki managed to finish third in this event which was a great achievement in a very competitive competition. In our spelling bee team we had Mario Cvetkoski as our senior representative and Alex Ibasita as our junior representative. They performed well and managed to force a tiebreaker for 1st place. Ultimately, we finished second to a strong Waiporoporo team. Overall, some great achievements from students in Kākāriki, and I look forward to seeing what exciting achievements our students have next term.

Kind Regards,

Ethan Smith
