Hockey at Linwood College

Charlotte Cottrell —

Year 7 & 8s Taking the Field

Hockey is taking off at Linwood College amongst our Year 7 & 8 students with two 6-a-side teams practising every Monday after school and playing games every Tuesday at Numweek Park. The students are coached by John Radovonich (ex-Linwood High student and ex-NZ Men’s hockey player) and Peter Darling. Amongst the teams are two students who are getting focused training as fully kitted out goalies from specialist goalie coach, Mark Doyle - who is currently the NZ men’s volleyball coach. A multi-talented man!

Zach Derham, Devyn Maule, Hamish Thompson, Peter Darling, Savannah Peterson, Anahera Smith, Laxmi Budathokhi, Whaea Charlotte, Elaisha Salamoding, Gaia Rasmussen. Absent: Nyssa McIssac.

One team is off to the AIMS games in Tauranga in early September and the other team will be competing at the Koru Games in Christchurch, in late September. All the students are super excited about the upcoming tournaments and ready for the extra practices coming up, including during the holidays!

We have been supplied with lots of hockey sticks, balls, mouthguards and shin guards to have our ākonga good to go. We have been also given some secondhand goals by Canterbury Hockey and a set of special tubing that we use as sidelines. Our students love hockey and are having so much fun developing their skills and scoring goals!
